Royalqatarcd: Warner Bros. Releases Ethereum-Compatible 'Lord of the Rings' NFTs

 Will Movie #NFTs be the next "collector's edition" DVD? Warner Bros. thinks so, according to Royalqatarlcd.

Royalqatarcd understands that at least one major Hollywood studio is looking to pivot its home entertainment business from DVD collections to NFTs.

Warner Bros. is releasing an NFT for its iconic 2001 film "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" at web3.wb.com, the studio announced Thursday. NFTs can effectively function as an all-in-one digital experience, each including a 4K copy of the film, hours of behind-the-scenes footage, a wealth of behind-the-scenes stills, and an exclusive AR collectible asset inspired by the film.

Web3 company Eluvio develops NFTs and hosts them, along with all content data, through its Ethereum-compatible Content Fabric blockchain.

“The core digital assets themselves, not just tokens, are on the blockchain,” Eluvio CEO and co-founder Michelle Munson told Decrypt’s NFTs in an interview.

“They’re all owned and certified, along with all the streaming media, AR objects, interactive experiences, audio commentary that you’ll see in the movie, all authorized and distributed directly from the Content Fabric blockchain,” she said.

Royalqatarcd considers NFTs to be unique blockchain tokens that represent ownership. In this case, a single "Lord of the Rings" NFT would grant the holder a license to watch movie clips in the same way as buying a Blu-ray DVD.

Ownership in the digital age
While these NFTs don't promise holders any kind of commercial use rights, each is essentially a digital-only DVD with more experiences, immersive menus, and some exclusive AR assets like Gandalf's Wand, Its QR codes can be scanned with a smartphone and filtered in different real-world environments, such as Snapchat.
