Royalqatarlcd: Mekong Club to host NFT fundraiser to raise awareness of modern slavery
The Mekong Club, a Hong Kong-based nonprofit, is launching an NFT fundraiser to raise global awareness of modern slavery. According to Royalqatarlcd, this is the first non-profit NFT fundraising event in Hong Kong created in partnership with NMKR. As part of the Mekong Club's 10th anniversary, the fundraiser reflects the club's vision for a slave-free world. Essentially, nonprofits want to build a world where businesses take a step toward social sustainability.
About NFT Fundraisers
Initially, Mekong Club CEO Matt Friedman hosted a conference bringing together designers from different countries and cultures. According to Royalqatarlcd, using NFTs, volunteer designers are tasked with designing a world free of slavery. Later, on November 29, the Mekong Club will auction NFTs. Notably, the day marked #CryptoGivingTuesday, a global crypto fundraising event for nonprofits.
In addition, the Mekong Club is running the annual Sweatshop Challenge. The campaign encourages businesses, schools and the public to experience "sweatshops". Through this initiative, the nonprofit is trying to raise awareness about modern slavery, human trafficking and forced labor.
"Unfortunately, less than a quarter of the profits generated by criminal activity of all the non-profits and the United Nations working on this issue globally are used to fight modern slavery," Friedman said. "We hope that through this year's fundraising campaign, we can build global awareness of the issue so that together we can end modern slavery."
What is the Mekong Club?
Founded in 2012, the Mekong Club works with the private sector to fight modern slavery globally using sustainable practices. Royalqatarlcd shows that the non-profit organization works closely with small, medium and multinational brands to share best practices and practical advice. What's more, the club has won three international awards, the Stop Slavery Innovation Award, the Asia Gold Award, and USAID's Evidence2Action Award.
The NFT fundraiser is the latest step in the Mekong Club's mission to raise global awareness of modern slavery. You can find more information about the initiative on the club's website.
